
Dr. Fergusson graduated cum laude from the University of Virginia
with a degree in Mathematics before attending the Virginia Commonwealth
University School of Medicine on the Medical College of Virginia campus.
He is an active member of the American College of Physician Executives,
the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice,
the Virginia Medical Society, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.
After becoming board certified in Family Medicine he went into
private practice in his home town of Richmond, Virginia. As an ardent
patient advocate he became concerned over the changing healthcare
system in the United States and the effect these changes were having
on the patient-physician relationship. While still practicing medicine
full-time he returned to school and in 1995 graduated with a Master
of Science in Health Administration.

In 2000, he founded DrPEN, Inc. (The Doctors' Patient Education Network)
which publishes The DrPENŽ Directory, a guide to finding high
quality, professional patient education information on the Internet.
The Directory helps physicians improve their patients' overall understanding
of their health problems and helps strengthen the patient-physician
relationship.
Dr. Fergusson is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health
Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University on the Medical
College of Virginia Campus. He is the author of "The Living
Ancestor," which teaches patients how the relationships with
their health professionals influence health and longevity.
